A shutdown scope is a logistics problem before it is an insulation problem. What we plan, in what order, to hand a line back on the promised day.
Everything is decided before day one
By the time the plant stops, the line list is measured, the material is on site and counted, the crew is inducted and the permits are applied for. Anything left to be decided during the shutdown will cost a shift.
We survey while the plant is running, which means working from the outside of live lines and accepting that some measurements are confirmed on day one. That is normal, and it is why we carry a tolerance of material rather than an exact cut list.
Sequencing
Stripping runs ahead of the mechanical work, not alongside it. Reinsulation follows the pressure test, never before it — insulating a line that then has to be opened up is the most common way a shutdown scope doubles.
Cladding follows in the same sequence, one section behind the wool, so a rain event does not soak an unclad run.
Night shifts and manpower
Shutdown work is planned to the hour and staffed in two shifts where the window is tight. Supervision runs on both shifts — an unsupervised night shift is where detailing quality drops.
